Topics covered in this two-day course include the following:
- Developing a Mission Statement that includes input from the minister and possibly church leaders that defines the purpose of the security team and guides actions needed to protect attendees in a manner that aligns with the church’s philosophy and vision
- Development of a team operating order that is neither overly complicated nor so brief or ambiguous that a team member may be hesitant to act or mishandle interactions with other people
- Importance of team communications with parkers, greeters, ushers, children’s area and other key personnel
- Site evaluation and tactical positioning of team members outside and inside the church
- Identifying, interacting with, and managing suspicious visitors or known persons of questionable intent and procedures for maintaining close supervision of persons who are security concerns
- Procedures for criminally trespassing persons from the premises
- Mitigating risks regarding Assault by Contact and Unlawful Arrest or Detention
- When and when not to use OC/Pepper Spray in crowded areas
- Managing personal conflict between two or more parties and domestic violence situations, including conflicts between custodial and non-custodial parents in the children’s area
- House of Worship live-fire exercises covering the following:
- Firearm selection, support gear, and clothing
- Firearms safety
- Situation-based ready positions
- Armed movement through crowds
- Tactical anatomy
- Contact and near-contact distance shooting skills
- Precision shooting in crowded areas
- Active shooter response and one and two-member room clearing
- Shooting qualification and written test
- 250 rounds of ammunition required along with normal range gear, eye and ear protection, and covering garment consistent with the clothing worn while doing church security
