It should come as no surprise that the concealed handgun may not be the most appropriate tool at the time a defender is confronted with a threat. Examples include situations in which the use of deadly force is not lawful or warranted based upon the level of the current threat, the defender is not armed (there are always instances in which carrying a concealed handgun is not possible), or even if we are armed an attempt on our part to draw our handgun has a high probability of it being taken away and used on us.
Secondary defensive tools include oleoresin capsicum/pepper spray, small impact weapons (saps and blackjacks are legal in Texas), and small fixed-blade knives. Mere possession of these tools is insufficient. Without training they may not only be ineffective but in some instances make a bad situation worse.
This seven-hour clinic addresses critical skills and techniques for use with each of the three defensive tools mentioned above and draws heavily from the instructors’ experience training under such nationally-known instructors as Craig Douglas, Larry Lindenman, Jerry Wetzel, Paul Sharp, Cecil Birch, Tim Bulot, and Chuck Haggard. Lead instructor Steve Moses is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt and Tae Kwon Do black belt, and lead instructor Guy Schnitzler is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and Kenpo Karate black belt. Both also have instructor certifications in OC/less lethal, empty hand knife defense, ground fighting fundamentals, adaptive striking, and small impact weapons.
