Defensive Carbine

The objective of the PTG Defensive Carbine Class is to enhance each student’s understanding of their individual weapon system and develop basic gunhandling and marksmanship skills, some of which are unique to intermediate-caliber semi-automatic rifles of military origin, and increase their capabilities in deadly force encounters from the distances of 1-100 yards as well as learn tactic tactics relevant to effective self-defense.

  • Snapshooting from contact distance to 50 yards
  • Malfunction clearance 
  • Moving off the line of fire
  • Shooting on the move
  • Transition drills
  • Shooting from cover and concealment
  • Shooting from kneeling and prone
  • Skills test

Required Equipment
  • 300 rounds ammunition (no steel-core ammunition)*
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Clothing suitable for season and weather
  • 3 magazines and at least one magazine carrier
  • Lawn chair
  • Drinks and snacks (lunch break is one hour)
  • Pen and notepad
  • Handgun with holster (no live-fire with handgun)

*Students who wish to attend with a semi-automatic carbine chambered in .22 Long Rifle are welcome (we don’t judge, and they can be used effectively in certain situations).
