The Church Security Team Leader/Instructor Development Level One course is designed for students who desire to form an armed House of Worship security team, are already on a security team that has never been professionally trained or are interested in teaching church security team classes. Topics covered in this 16-hour course include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Use of Force Laws
- Mitigating risks regarding Assault by Contact, Unlawful Arrest, and Detention
- Team member selection and training
- Individual member gear and tools
- Identifying, interacting with, and managing suspicious visitors or known persons with questionable intent and procedures for maintaining close supervision of persons who are security concerns
- Use of OC in the Church environment
- Common guns, gear, and clothing issues seen on Church Security Teams
- Church Security specific live-fire exercises covering but not limited to, the following:
- Firearms safety
- Situationally-based ready positions
- Recommended shooting drills
- Contact distance, near-contact distance, and close distance shooting
- Precision shooting in crowded areas
- Armed movement through crowds
- Recommended Church Security Team Member Qualification Test
- Church Security Team Leader/Instructor Qualification Test
- Security concerns in the Children’s Area
- Team communications
- Video Surveillance
- Development of a Church Security Plan and Team Operating Order
- Site evaluation and tactical positioning of security team members outside and inside of the House of Worship
- One and two-man room clearing fundamentals
- Active Shooter response
- Graduation
Required Equipment
Notepad, pen, cover garment similar to what might be worn while working on a church security team, service handgun with concealment kydex holster and two spare magazine pouches, 250 rounds of training ammunition, clothes suitable for outdoor wear (including rain gear), lunch, lawn chair, water, snacks, and eye and ear protection. Prohibited holsters are Serpa holsters, shoulder holsters, and small-of-the-back holsters.
